In 1997, the Dictionary of Definitions, formerly known as Didef.com, became one of the first English dictionaries to be put online on the Internet. Originally based on Webster's synonym dictionary and Roget's Thesaurus, the site disappeared for a short period of time because of a domain name dispute. Today, this original word dictionary has evolved into a powerful and free online antonym and synonym dictionary, comprising hundreds of thousands of definitions.
Every month, some 12,000 visitors from all over the world use the Dictionary of Definitions for many different reasons including free word searches, free spelling activites, online thesaures lookup, or simply to obtain correct spelling of words. Its simplicity, and the elegance of its interface, make this web site one of the favorite online dictionarys on the net.
The Dictionary of Definitions is superior to many others because of its clean and visually appealing interface, as compared with other Internet dictionaries which are cluttered with invasive advertisements and pop-ups.
Dictionary definitions from no less than 33 major sources are available on this site, with topics ranging from medical dictionary terms, to legal terminology, bible references or slang jargon. Translations will be available later this year when 3 new sections are added for use by our users: a Spanish dictionary, a French dictionary and a Latin dictionary.
